In the final desert series we will head to Antarctica – a polar desert. An area deemed as a polar desert receives less than 250 mm of precipitation annually and averages less than 10C during its warmest months. Our fifth largest continent of Antarctica easily meets the criteria as it is the driest and coldest continent. Additionally it is known for being the windiest and having the highest elevation, on average. Other polar deserts are Greenland and the Arctic.
Although there are no permanent human inhabitants in Antarctica there are permanent research stations set up by numerous countries. I guess they need their mail too.
