A mountain escape – A reason to visit andorra
Have you heard of this tiny European country? This country is only marginally smaller than the town I grew up in! The microstate of Andorra is tucked high up in the Pyrenees Mountains, sandwiched between France and Spain. As far as microstates in Europe go, it is acutally the largest, but it is still a small country. Not only is it small, its capital city, Andorra la Vella, is the highest capital in all of Europe. It sits high up at 1,023 m / 3,356 ft.
So what does this small country have to offer its visitors? Well from the sounds of it, quite a bit. From year-round outdoor activties and duty-free shopping to centuries of history and being pampered at spas, Andorra looks to tick all the boxes.
Skiing is popular in the winter months, which is not surprising as the country has over 300km of slopes. The mountain snow also welcomes Nordic skiers, snowshoers, tubers, sledders, and more. In the summer months, the rugged Pyrenees offer hiking with unsurpassed views, bike parks for enthusiasts, and the Tobotronc – the world’s largest alpine toboggan run (not gonna lie, I may visit just for this).

After all the outdoor fun, it is time to relax and unwind in one of the many spas. From large complexes, such as Caldea, to hotel and resort spas, there are many options for being pampered in Andorra. Or perhaps shopping is you way to unwind. Take your pick of top fashion stores, perusing the tech shops, or looking for your next buy in sport gear, you will find places to buy all over the country.
For myself, visiting Andorra as part of a multi-European country trip would allow for a broader experience. Since travel to this microstate is via land through Spain or France it is perfectly poised to allow for more nature and culture to be added to any itinerary (and that alpine coaster!)

Leave a note from your corner of the world — I’d love to hear it
