Little heard of (at least to me) when talk of South American countries arises is Suriname. It is coastal country located on the northwestern coast of the continent. A cultural blend, Suriname’s history is filled with the indigenous Amerindians and people from Africa, India, China, Indonesia and The Netherlands. In addition to the cultural heritage full of music, food and architecture, Suriname is a veritable rain forest. Nearly 14.8 million hectares of the Amazon Rainforest is found in this country. The natural beauty of this country is a major draw for many travelers.

Paramaribo, the capital of Suriname is located on the Suriname River. Its inner city is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
