SUNDAY’S SPECIAL SPOT – MACHU PICCHU AND THE INCA TRAIL

,

It is no doubt that our world is filled with natural beauty and wonders. It also contains some marvels created by human hands. When you combine both nature and a man made monument you encounter the incredible. Machu Picchu is one of those incredible spaces. Believed to be built in 1450 CE by the Incas it was “lost” to the world at large until 1911. It is unknown why this collection of homes, palaces and plazas was built yet despite this it is recognized globally as an integral archaeological site. Many are fascinated by it. This has resulted in the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu becoming the most popular trek in South America. As a result of this the Peruvian government has limited the number of hikers it allows on all the trails in an effort to protect the ecology of the area.
